The lost generation: UK rioting and looting

The UK must get to the bottom of the matter. Enough of the political
correctness. We are dealing with a lost generation. Positive role models must get off sitting on the fence and begin taking responsibility for their communities. My involvement in London schools as a Life Coach for several years opened my eyes to the wasted talent of our youth who are yearning for positive attention and guidance from coaches, mentors and older people who cared to pass on their wisdom to the next generation. Sadly, just a handful of us did this work until funding from the London Councils run out. Speaks volumes about their priorities. I wonder why those parents didn't turn up for the coffee morning that the head of school arranged to celebrate the success of our work...?

There's a youth culture that cuts across racial and class backgrounds. You only have to to look at the sort of trousers worn by a lot of young people. The type that hangs loose at the back with underwear being advertised... Who wants to see your underwear?

Back in 1996 when I was invited by a Mayor Kenney of the City of Richmond Virginia, USA and friends to give a historical and motivational talk to the young inmates at the Juvenile detention centre, I saw that there was reason for their oversized denims to hang loose on their body because they weren't allowed to wear belts due to safety measures...we know what some suicidal person can do with a belt in such an environment.

Little did I know that it would become a fashion statement a decade on... That's a symbol of where the generation of youth is getting it's values from. Making arrests en-masse as quick-fix measure will inevitably take these offenders in the eyes of the law, back to the homestead of contemporary youth culture where a lot of inmates 'graduate' on to maximum security prisons which is their 'University'. The ones who manage to drop out of this sort of 'College' are plagued with a criminal record for life unless they have a 'Road to Damascus' experience...
